My ferrets loved Kimber Brawley (formerly of Portland, OR). I don't know where he is in Texas, but he is a wonderful vet. Now that we are in the DC area, we have been going to Dr. Thomas Kawasaki (of FML fame), and he is encyclopedic in his knowledge of ferrets. However, in a recent emergency when Kawasaki's office was closed (plus it's over an hour away for us), we went to Alexandria Animal Hospital. Dr. Sonja Olson there is not the ferret specialist (apparently Dr. Pamela Slack is), but Dr. Olson was on when we brought our Perseus in at 11 PM after he fell one-story to a hardwood floor. She handled the emergency with consummate skill, and I have nothing but praise for her. She admitted Perseus for observation overnight, interpeting the X-rays for us and letting us know what possible problems might have resulted from the fall. Perseus is much better, but he scared us to death. On a much lighter note, Perseus loves dried apricots- I just found this out a day or two ago when I was eating some and he went crazy for them. He likes other snacks (raisins, Cheerios), but he really loses his composure over apricots. Thank God Trader Joes is now in the DC area, just what the world needs - a ferret with gourmet tastes.
