Debbie Utter <[log in to unmask]> says: >I have a Midwest cage with NO shelves or ramps. Any idea how much it's >going to cost to get two floors and ramps to put in it? Or maybe where I >can get some used shelving, or make my own (easily)? Debbie, We made our own. Here's what we used: - one piece of 1/4" plywood for each shelf (the nice folks at the hardware store will cut them for you if you don't have a power saw); size is 1" less than the front-to-back depth of the cage and 4-6" less than 1/2 the cage width - four screw eyes and four s-hooks for each shelf - sufficient vinyl flooring, stick-on vinyl floor tiles, or AstroTurf to cover all the shelves (AstroTurf can be stretched over the shelves and stapled under the bottom; our ferrets prefer it to slippery shelves) Cover the shelves with the flooring of your choice, install a screw eye in the top of each corner, and use s-hooks to hang the shelves from the horizontal cage members. You can make ramps out of carpet- covered strips of plywood, too, but if you stagger the shelves like so: ---------------- your ferrets will probably have no trouble | | getting up and down on their own (ours don't). | | |------ | | | Hope this helps. Enjoy your construction project! | ------| | | ellen & the Gang of [for the moment] Three |------ | [log in to unmask] | | | | ---------------- [Posted in FML issue 2429]
