Mr. John Flicker President, National Audubon Society 700 Broadway New York, NY 10003 Dear Mr. Flicker: It is unfortunate the Audubon Society continues to work to prevent legalization of ferrets in California. Support for the Audubon Society is weakened and injustices occur for ferret owners in that state. Thousands of ferret owners across the country, including myself, refuse to support the Audubon Society in any way until you discontinue your anti-ferret policy in California. For instance, I was asked to become president of the local Audubon Society even though never a member. Due to your anti-ferret policy, I could not accept, and I would not become a member. Your anti-ferret policy conflicts with the love of all animals demonstrated by members of the local Audubon Society. When I introduced my ferrets to this wonderful group of people at one of their gatherings, they were delighted and happy, and several said they love all animals. They must have been disappointed to hear of your activity in California. Please consider the harm you are doing your own organization and our precious and beautiful birds. Ferrets are not a threat. Your policy is. Love for all animals, including birds and ferrets, is vital to their survival in today s world. Love for all animals is our most precious defense against their destruction. Your anti-ferret policy will not help to keep that love alive. [Posted in FML issue 2406]
