Medical Waste: Most Pharmacies carry the red plastic containers to properly dispose of medical waste in. If they don't have one in stock, ask the pharmacist to order one for you. Vaccination Lump: This is perfectly normal, and happens in about 25% of ferrets, especially after the Imrab3 Rabies Vaccine. Your ferrets body has built up a small amount of scar tissue around the injection site in a normal process of fighting off a foreign antibody in the body. As long as it is not red or causing any pain, it is not a problem. It should be gone in about a month. Fleas: I haven't had a flea problem in about four years, until recently that is. I went to my vet and got Advantage. I used a regular syringe, poked the needle into to tube to draw it out, and then easily controlled putting one drop between the shoulder blades of each ferret by dripping it off the syringe. A few of the biggest hobs got two drops. The next day, no more fleas. I was not "infested", but we all know that when you see a few fleas if you don't deal with it immediately, in a couple weeks you can be infested. The important thing to remember about Advantage is to not use too much on your ferrets. It is not approved for use in ferrets, but then again, neither are many of the drugs we use on them... -Anne [Posted in FML issue 2388]
