Hey All, What a pleasant surprise I had Saturday morning. I live near Boulder Colorado and get the Boulder Daily Camera delivered to my house. As I a skimming the headlines, I see " Think 2 or 3 times before getting a ferret". I assumed it was going to be a ferret bashing article. But NO it was far from that! It was VERY informative and truthful. It was written by Cindy Wolff for the Scripps Howard News Service. It was a summary of an interview with Lorie Frezza, (one of 2 ferret rescues in Memphis) Are you on the FML Lorie? It also mentions a John Pummill in Southaven Miss. (are you here John?) The medical editor for the United Ferret Organization, David Jonas, is referenced. Pretty much what the article says is that the Ferret is a domesticated pet. They are in the Mustelidae family along with weasels , minks, otters and badgers. All Ferrets should be spayed or neutered, especially females because they will die of the elevated estrogen levels. Ferrets need hairball remedy since they are unable to cough up hairballs like a cat. Owners should not use wood shavings because it causes respiratory problems. People don't realize how much commitment a ferret will be when they get them and that is a big problem. The article ends by saying, people who might want a ferret should spend time with people who already do, do research on the internet and it recommends Deborah Jeans book. Wow what a great article! It is so nice to see articles like this!! Thank you Cindy Wolff for writing a great piece. At the bottom of the article was Cindy's email and an address: [log in to unmask] or mail her at The Commercial Appeal 495 Union Ave. Memphis, TN 38103 I cc'd her on this and wrote her a thank you email. SO that is the scoop, Sue and her frenzy of 5 [Posted in FML issue 2369]
