For every single person out there who is supporting this anti-Marshall Farms propoganda and campaign. You must of never seen a jill succomb to being in season for too long. We just recently had a jill turned into us at the U.F.O. shelter who had been in season too long. After trying everything to save her, breeding, spaying, surgury, force feeding, hormone shots, and finally euthanasia to spare her anymore pain and suffering. The emotional drain and finally the financial strain it can put on someone or a shelter is too much to bear. I love my ferrets and any ferret that is turned into us. I guess I love them all since I spend so much of my free time campaigning for their legalization and protection. I hope I never have to go through the loss of another ferret to someones ignorance or lack of knowledge or just plain stupidity. Maybe these people did not know she was in season? Maybe they could not afford to have her spayed? Maybe they could not find a male to breed with her? Maybe they were just another couple who thought a baby ferret was cute, adorable and wanted to bring her home without checking to see if she might need something later down the line? WHO IS TO BLAME HER for the senseless death of another ferret. Which is furthering the cause of Ferret Domestication and EXTINCTION? The ferret breeder who provides them to the unknowing consumer ready to live a long and happy life free from worrying about seasons and mating and unwanted litters, etc. etc. Or the breeder who sells his or her ferrets to anyone who has the green stuff in their hands and gives into the "OH THEY ARE SO ADORABLE", babbling of another unsuspecting person who "THINKS" they want and can handle an intact jill or hob. Only to realize several months down the line they stink, spray, and get a little more aggressive when in season. (not all do, but my experience is they do). Also, the females problems that can arise when there is no male to take her out of season or money in this persons bank account to afford the costly spaying operation. SO THE NEXT TIME YOU THINK THERE IS A FERRET CONSPIRACY, lets see who is causing more damage to the ferret population. I am not a full supporter of any breeder. But, the protection and education is what I see Marshall Farms doing. Not the backyard breeders I have encountered. Rick United Ferret Organization (excluding Mass) [Posted in FML issue 2384]
