"Actually, it's not a problem if you've already been exposed to the parasite BEFORE your pregnancy. It's only a problem if you are exposed for the FIRST time DURING your pregnancy." This is exactly what I was trying to say. Big or anyone else who might know: I would like to read a reference on that case of ferrets transmitting toxoplasmosis to humans. If you know where I can find it please let me know. I am working with a parasitologist this summer and he did alot of Toxoplasmosis research and he was the one who taught us about toxo. If indeed a ferret has transmitted toxo to a human, he should know about it. I want to too. ********************** Shelley Straight Va-Md Regional College Of Veterinary Medicine ********************** [Moderator's note: Dr. Williams and Dr. Dutton both have mentioned more than once on the FML that there have been two(?) documented cases of ferrets carrying toxo (e.g. see issues 1281, 1661, 1734), though neither cited the reference. It seems to be "exceedingly rare". But "why take a chance when avoidance is so easy?" is another common comment. BIG] [Posted in FML issue 2267]
