Well, howdy again! We were having a series of talks about stupid questions/comments awhile back and I have one to add to the collection. Last week, I was wandering on campus and I had Gushi (my DEW - well, more like cream-coloured) with me. Well, we got the usual, what is that? Isn't he cute! What do you feed him? stuff. Then I came across a woman and two men sitting at a table having coffee. The woman said "Oh look - a ferret! I used to have one!" So we stopped to talk. Now I do know this woman due to dealing with her in the past (she works at the travel agency on campus) and I've always thought she was a few bricks short of a load. Well, she proved me right that day!! She sat there telling me about having a little ferret a long time ago (she has a yorkie dog and it was sitting on her lap during this conversation) and she also had a fitch fur coat and she would wear her coat and walk her little ferret. Well, I, needless to say, found something hypocritically creepy about this. One of the gentleman at the table told her she shouldn't be telling me this, I kinda nodded and half-smiled at him. I commented that I thought fitches were bred for hunting not their fur (clarification here anyone??? Is this in North America or in Europe or both??). She told me that they are widely bred for their coat and that the fur is more expensive than mink (??!). All the time, I'm looking at her with this obviously disapproving look, but she keeps blathering on that the fur wasn't like Gushi's but dark brown with black in it, blah, blah, blah. At this point her dog starts freaking out over Gushi and barking its little head off. I look at the dog, nod to the two gentleman and then give her abit of a dirty look before walking away. I came very close to saying "I see your dog is as almost socially inept as you are", but I didn't want to insult the dog. A friend after hearing this story told me that she's heard of such fur coats but that they definitely don't cost more than mink/ermine and that I should have told her that she was a social idiot and got ripped off on her coat!! I guess it just takes all sorts! Hugs to all!
