As people find out how close the latest round of tornados hit by us, I want to thank all of you whose notes drop in to see how we faired. We're all OK here in GA. It made a circle around my area, hit really bad right around the corner from us. Some of the pictures they were showing on the news where the shopping center building came down & the Volvo dealership got trashed is right down the block. I couldn't believe how mangled the street signs were - they looked like linguini. It also hit about a mile from one of our foster homes. It was close, but missed us completely. After this experience, I wanted to give everyone feedback. Until you've experienced the devistation, you can't begin to imagine how distructive high winds/tornados can be. I was aware of the warning/alert & didn't take heed to the warnings the way I should have. I was just lucky. Once we lost power & the lights went out, we didn't even know what was going on. Living in an area w/a reputation for tornadoes/high winds, I fully intend to get a battery powered weather radio, & so should anyone else in that position. When the local weatherperson says "TAKE COVER - I'M NOT KIDDING" they mean it! I now realize how lucky I was. Had that storm crossed our path, you'd probably have heard about us on the news. I live in a wood-frame, 2-story townhouse w/a daylight basement. Only one wall of my basement is an underground wall. Being in that pocket of solid earth is the safest place I could have been, along w/our critters. I am more than aware of my ignorance & will not let it happen again. ********************************************* >From: Keith Welding <[log in to unmask]> >Subject: lone ferrets >Will a ferret live a happy and healthy life if he has no other ferret >friend? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Emphatically YES. My 1st furkid, Gus, was an only ferret for 2 years (before I lost my mind). He came into our home as a 12-week old pet store purchase (I know, I know). He didn't need another ferret, because we (hubby & I) were his other ferrets. All our time was devoted exclusively to him & he was devoted exclusively to us. Except to sleep at night & when we were out of the house, he was out of his cage w/us. He was the only lap-ferret we've ever had. The key to being owned by a single ferret is to make that darling the center of your universe. A single ferret w/out enough human interaction would not be an ideal situation.
