Last February, I thought my little one year old MF male (Sparky) needed a companion. He had become somewhat withdrawn. I brought in a new one year old (Scooter) little guy that had been dropped off at a pet store. He seemed to be very healthy. A few days after we brought him home, Sparky had a couple of greenish slimy poops. I took him to the vets and the vet thought he might just be stressed and prescribed something (i don't remember what). Sparky's poops cleared right up. Then within a couple of days, Scooter's poops started looking the same, but more green and more slime. Scooter quit eating and drinking and got a full blown case of ECE. I hand fed & watered him and took him to the vet 4 times a week for intravenous water. His weight dropped from 2 1/2 pounds to 12 oz, the vet said he was so bad we would probably lose him. It took about five to six weeks but he finally pulled out of it. No recurring problem since then. In July, we bought a new, fuzzy safe three story condo from H & S. Both ferrets get along very well. I would like to add to my fuzzy family. I want to bring in two approximately 10 week old fuzzies. I would keep them in the one story cage that Scooter originally stayed in until they were large enough to navigate the three story and get along with Sparky and Scooter. My question is: Since ECE had already visited us here nearly a year ago, are the new babies likely to get it?? Can we use the old cage for the babies? Should we disinfect it, if so, what with??
