Hi there! I'm Georgette Peters and the mom of four ferrets - Gushi, Geisha, Nik and Buster. I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Mine was pretty good for the most part, but unfortunately my youngest male, Buster, had to have surgery on the 23rd of December to remove two cyst-like growths. One was between his shoulder blades and the other was one his tummy around one of his nipples. The surgery went well, though he did come home looking a little like something out of a Frankenstein movie. Anyways, I got the biopsy results today and the one between his shoulders was benign and the one on his tummy was unfortunately malignant. Since it was a mammarian-type cancer - which is fairly rare I was told in ferrets - the vets said that it was difficult to give me a prognosis of any kind. We don't know how possible it is for this to spread to other areas, if it'll come back, etc. Needless I'm pretty upset to hear this news and right now need to get as much information as possible from anyone who has dealt with this sort of thing in the past. HELP!!! I will be going to the vet on Thursday to have Buster's stitches removed and to sit down for a talk with the vet about what possibilities we have, etc. I'm also hoping to get a print out of all the biopsy results and such so I can post that here to in hopes that any of the vets here on the list can help give me some idea of what to expect, look out for and such. Thanks for any information and advice that anyone can give me. Take care and hugs to all!!
