Dooks, I am finally caught up on reading FML's (I hope, I think I missed a few). Because my hubby did some upgrading the computer was off limits for a while, plus life was leaving me behind (bad sinus headaches). :-) Anyway, I wanted to comment on the "You know you're a ferret person when...". They are great! I had one, but now I can't remember it, brain hiccup. :-) Hopefully, it will come back soon. About the ferrets biting - all do or do not. I think the comment should be changed to all ferrets have the *capacity* to bite. Any animal in any condition has the capacity to bite. For example, animals in bad home lives; animals in good homes, but feeling playful and wanting to roughhouse; animals that feel threatened, scared, or simply wanting to be left alone; animals that are in a good home but are sick or injured. The list goes on and on. It all depends on the circumstances at that time thus the capacity. When I was growing up we had a large hob that would not even bite his mate, not even when she was with a litter. Klondike was the perfect, sweetest ferret. He would help watch the kits (when the separation time was over and supervised) and let Munchkin take a break from her litter. When he had an abcessed foot and it needed medicine and draining - probably very painful - he could have bitten. Instead he would lick furiously while being tended. Munchkin was also very sweet and loved to cuddle as much as Klon did, but when she went into heat she could bite if given the opportunity. She latched onto my eyelid once when I wasn't expecting it. The point is, the capacity is there and bites/nips can happen. So instead of arguing whether all ferrets do or do not bite let's just say they are capable of biting. I am sorry this is long, but I just wanted to put a different perspective on it. Only the human companion knows how his/her ferret will behave and even then there are surprises. I remembered :-), You know you are a ferret person when telling people about your kids you include the ferrets along with the human children. Hope you all enjoy the 10th. Wish I could be there.
