Hi! My ferret McKyle, like many other ferrets I know, loves diggin'!! I really enjoy taking him outside to dig in our "yard"... (our apartment building has a generously-sized courtyard with lots of grass & trees). However, as it's beginning to get a little colder, I have found a way to bring the diggin' inside. I purchased a large cat litter pan at PetSmart for $8.99, and a bag of white play sand at Target for $2.59. I put the two together, stuck the "sandbox" in the ferret's playroom (formerly our walk-in closet), and watched the fun begin! He rooted around, dug, built a "sandcastle" (no kidding!) and hasn't stopped jumping for joy yet! The first thing he does upon waking now is to go to his sandbox to stick his head in the sand & make sure it's still there! It's so cute--I already have a roll of film half-full of sandbox pictures. He's cutest when he's just pulled his head out from "tunnelling" and his little nose and whiskers are covered in sand! A warning, though... this is a MESSY way to do it! McKyle has spread the sand all over the closet floor and I have to sweep it up everytime I go in there. I would have gotten a cat litter pan with the edge-guard piece that snaps on and slopes inward towards the pan, but McKyle couldn't quite pull his fat bottom up over the edge of it. Happy Ferreting, everyone! Rachelle (Sweep, sweep, sweep...) McKyle (DigDigDigDigDigDigDig!!!) PS--Please do not "flame" me for making the ferret's playroom in the closet. It is a very large, well-lit, and ventilated closet, about as large as our kitchen or bathroom. And he does get to roam the whole house often, too. [Posted in FML issue 2150]
