Hi Guys Noni, here and I have been sitting back thinking about 1997 and the main thing that keeps popping into my head is that it was one year ago today that I awoke and found my Perry Boy paralyzed from the waist down. For those who don't remember Perry, he became paralyzed from ECE and by the time the vet saw him Perry was totally paralyzed. New Years Eve last year all I did was cry and wipe him up from his messing himself. At any rate one year later, I thought everyone here deserved an "Offical Perry Update." Perry is not totally recovered, but I would say he is about 97% there. He can walk, run and happy dance just like any other ferret, however his rear left leg still isn't there yet. He can move it and he can put it in the proper position, but when he gets excited he forgets and it goes straight behind him. He is so much fun to watch, because he has become more vocal than most of the other kids, and I know when he is on something he probably shouldn't be, like the couch or a chair, because he will sit there and giggle. After his bout with paralysis we found out that he had Adrenal disease, which did turn out to be cancer. We had his adrenal gland removed and I am happy to say that Perry has not only won my heart, but just about everyone who has had anything to do with him. Whenever we go see the Vet, and Perry walks around the office for him, my Vet just smiles and says "there goes our Miracle Boy." Was it hard work? Yes! Did it take very long? Only about 6 months of rehab. Did Perry and Noni get frustrated? Very! Is Perry a permanant shelter ferret? Of course he is! No, actually he is more than that, he is one of my bestest buddies I will ever know, and I just wanted you guys to know that even though he messes where he shouldn't, and sometimes gets triped up buy his bum leg, he is doing wonderfully well. I can only see him even improving more in 1998. HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE FROM PERRY AND NONI! [Posted in FML issue 2171]
