The first copy of Modern Ferret magazine I ever bought was #6, and in it was an article by Mr. Killian on "Showing Your Ferret". As a new ferret owner I was intrigued by the concept of a Ferret Show...and the article made it sound like a lot of fun. Well, I finally took the plunge and entered a couple of my "babies" in the Chicago Show.......and it was everything the article said a show could be......a wonderful blend of socializing and competeing! My daughter and I (in corny matching outfits) spent the day meeting very friendly ferret lovers - many of our AOL friends wore green ribbons so we could find each other. We shopped for unique ferret-related items from earrings to socks, ooohed and aaaahed over all the beautiful ferrets, and even spent a small part of the day "showing" our ferrets. <G> We brought home two ribbons and another ferret! There have been many postings lately about friendly "good" petstores - well our Bruno , the one who brought home the ribbons (seventh and THIRD place!!!!), is a sable MF boy who had been returned to a local petstore as a "biter". He sat there for months, getting bigger while the "cuter" little kits came and went. One day when I was at the store playing with him the manager told me to go ahead and take him home. A few months.....lots of TLC and TF.....and he was a winner! It also shows that you can have a chance at a show, even with "just" a petstore ferret. PamV [Posted in FML issue 2102]
