RE: California's Fish and Game action on Lake Davis...ie: Poisoning the fish population. For this action, I supported Cal's F&G 100%. The lake was overrun with Northern Pike, to the point that the native fish populations were being decimated by the Pike's voracious appetite. I have fished Lake Davis since it was created and used to catch 5 pounders! The past several years, 'planter's' were all I could hook. The lake is simply too small to support both Northern Pike and trout. Given the options of a 'sport' fish, (Northern Pike) that in 5 years would be gone anyway, with no other fish there (All eaten by the Pike, thus starving themselves out) or a 'food' fish (various specie of trout) that are fun to catch as well as good to eat, Cal's Fish and Game made the right decision (IMHO)..kill off the Pike and restock with trout! BTW..Pike are NOT native to any of California and Nevada's Sierra Nevada Mountain drainages. Please do not lump all divisions of Cal's Fish and Game in one lump..their Fuzzy policy stinks but their fish management is the best in the country! Joe (The rude one!) [Posted in FML issue 2101]
