Just heard a story on NPR's "All Things Considered" tonight, about retrofitting schools with wiring for the Internet. The technical consultant came up with the idea of using a rat to run the conduit through the walls and dropped ceilings. They trained the rat in a maze. Now, as many of you know from your voluminous reading about your pets, that ferrets have been used for similar purpose as long as there have been electricians--and most notably in the aerospace industry, with the prototypes for the Stealth fighter and the space shuttle. Okay, so these schools are in California. Wouldn't it have been nice if they had discovered that ferrets could have done the job? Why not contact your local school boards about retrofit projects and see whether ferrets can do the job? Why not hold contests as part of your frolics to see if your ferrets can run wiring through a mock-up of a retrofit project? -- Lee -- Lee [log in to unmask] [Posted in FML issue 2086]
