Saturday I visited the Ferret Association of CT's shelter to volunteer. My job was to bathe the older ferrets and clip nails and clean ears. I also helped give Mira a medical wash and cleaned her ears. Mira is a cute little chocolate ferret who was burned with bleach and stepped on. Her burns are healing. There are large scabs, some of which have fallen off. Her main problem is a swollen leg because the scar tissue is compressing a vein. Our vet is monitoring her and she may end up losing the leg, as infection has set in; she is on antibiotics. The burns are no longer horrifying to look at, but the leg is not a pretty sight. I was impressed by her sweetness and she was able to walk over to utilize the paper on two occasions. She also climbed into a little bed and she gets along well with the other ferrets. We will continue to post updates on our site and we thank those who have contributed. Moxie Member, FACT, Inc. http://www.ferret-fact.org/ [Posted in FML issue 2086]
