OK folks, I just caught a mention of Hagen ferrets. Hagen does not breed ferrets. They buy them from a ferret farm in Manatoba called CDC. And this is where things get a little controversial. CDC IMHO is one of the worst places for a ferret to come from. I am sorry to the shelter out there that disagrees with me. I am here in Toronto where the ferrets are shipped and I hear from the pet stores that tell me they have just gotten "another 4 or 5 week old kit" already fixed & descented. In the past, kits have been shipped with legs missing, botched surgeries & stitches ect... I know that it is not as bad as MF, but that shouldn't matter. Something needs to be done. I am also hearing from American ferret people about CDC. I have a few Canadian & American pet store spys and I continue to gather information about the CDC. From what I have been told, they have 1000 breeding jills that are bred 3 x per year and NEVER handled. I am gathering they are probably euthanised when they are too old to re produce as they are far from tame. If I am wrong about this, please tell me. Anyone out there have any stories about them? Let me know too. On another note, Harley is doing much better & Oso is not. I would also like to thank all of you that responded to "bad shelter mom". I do feel a bit better knowing that I'm not alone in feeling this way. I have a female disease that provents me from over working, so from now on, I will just do what I can and know that I am doing more for the fuzzies then their owners did. I also want to say that it was nice to meet some of you this week end at the Pet Expo in Toronto. It was kinda cute that you came up to Harley & me and knew who we were straight away! We raised over $150 in donations & sales of newsletters at the show!!! LOL!! Randy [Posted in FML issue 2105]
