... This is my second attempt to post this. Rose To the FML To begin, I would like to apologize to the entire FML reader list for being involved with a PRIVATE letter posted to a mass email. My response to the original letter was not intended for public posting, however it was. Now, I understand the poor wording of a private post in public translation. All pet ferrets can be sweet and gentle regardless of the nature of origin! I have nothing against foreign bred ferrets (have a number of them myself). The original intent on my comments were that perhaps we should not expose our pets to compromising situations where their lives may be in danger, therefore reducing the mayhem of public attention to bite cases. Realize that with each recorded ferret bite, it is reported to CDC (Center for Disease Control). If the increase in bites becomes "great" then the animal could be declared "dangerous" and would never reach "pet" status. With the "Shed Study" still in progress to establish a quarantine time for ferrets set forth in the AVMA Compendium, our efforts should be strengthened in working toward having each state recognize ferrets as "pets" as opposed to "exotics". I will not be answering any further flaming correspondence on this issue and with my apology to the mass I do hope further confusion and agitation will cease on the FML. Can we all just get back to happy stories of ferret fun? [Posted in FML issue 2057]
