Based on responses to my post of yesterday, it sounds like we once again have ECE in my household. Those of you who find such things interesting will find it interesting that Potpie, Friday, and Noodle all were present in my house for the 'first wave' of ECE two years ago, but Noodle didn't show symptoms then and he hasn't shown any symptoms now. Also, Potpie and Friday (Potpie got the first strain pretty badly, Friday moderately so) only showed 12 hours of symptoms during this strain at MOST. They both seem fine two or so days after I originally noticed their symptoms. Friday stopped throwing up and started going at her Duck Gumbo with gusto again and Potpie's stools are back to normal and she's busy yelling at me about thatdamnkitten once more. When we had ECE two years ago the ferts apparently didn't become carriers since no ferrets we met afterwards came down with the virus. When we got Easel, she didn't come down with it so that cemented it pretty firmly. However, she's hardest hit with this strain. She's going on her third day of seedy mustard yellow stool. She's eating and drinking fine but we're forcing Duck Soup, electrolyte, and Kao-Pectate into her anyway. Easel, btw, will NOT let you scruff her. As soon as she realizes she's being scruffed she starts clawing at your hand with both front legs and twisting pretty violently to get away. If you scruff harder she seems like she's in genuine discomfort and she starts making gagging noises, and coughs when you let her go. We think we got ECE from a ferret who passed through our house early last week, although we could've conceivably gotten it from the vet's office or some other source.
