Imagine this. One very large cage, a walk-in type. Ten ferret kits from two litters. Four from the older litter of 8 and a half weeks of age. Six from the younger at 6 and a half weeks. Three adults also complete the pileup. The house around the cage looks like a promising area to explore, and they want out now, since their human has approached!! At 8 and a half weeks, the older kits are rivalling the adults in size. Still need a lot of filling out, but have fifty times the energy along with the size. The younger kits are a lot smaller, and so are 'placed' when moved, rather than 'tossed' (this is a relative term) into the sleeping basket which is currently filled with an old soft dressing gown. The door - a human-sized one, since it is a walk-in cage - is partially opened, and suddenly two adults, three older kits and two younger ones rush directly for this 'escape'. (They didn't before the door was opened, but they're opportunists) three older kits are tossed into the basket, quickly followed by two adults. Two younger kits are shifted out of the way. Four older kits are tossed into the basket, along with one adult, and two more younger kits are shifted out of the way. Two older kits, two adults, four younger kits, followed by four older kits, two adults and one younger, three older kits, one adult... you get the idea. Suddenly, opening the door doesn't seem like such a great idea any more. No, I have decided that there really isn't thirteen ferrets in that cage, there is actually three hundred ferrets in there, they're just DISGUISED as thirteen... Note: When the number of adults or older kits goes down, you'll generally find you've backed out of the cage with a ferret or two perched on your back from the level up. I had to perform this ritual three times earlier this evening because on the first 'trip' in Kitten and Baby scrambled onto my back. On the second, Kitten (again) and Vader made the trip. On the third, the little girl I've dubbed "DJ" and L'il Bear had found their way up. If they'd had time, my back would be swarming with ferrets!! And these were such NICE kits before.... hehehehehehe Thank heavens it's not yet time for the little kits to start acting like this... Another week or two though, and I'm doomed. Sam Ferrets are my life - Ferrets are for me They get me into strife - They make me feel so free!! (Ah, probably because they steal everything!) Email the criminals and I at [log in to unmask] and hope I get it... Before they do! [Posted in FML issue 2251]
