Hi FMLer's I have three ferrets that are ECE free. My sister is getting two skunks that have lived with ferrets that all have ahd ECE but the skunks did not catch the ECE. Could the skunks be carriers? I have two ferrets that are almost 6 years old, maybe one is going on seven she was a rescue, shes a very grand lady regardless of age. My concern is that my sister (lives in another state, but comes to my house often) of course would bring her skunks, I have a cottage that is separate from my house where she and the skunks would stay. These are my questions; !. Would my sister ever be able to touch my ferrets again without jeapardizing them? 2. Could my ferrets catch ECE through the air because the skunks are approximately 30 feet from my house? 3. Is there some type of antiseptic that she could use on herself and clothes to prevent any problems? I am afraid that the only 100% solution would be my sister never come to my house again, which is not very realistic. Does anyone have an iadea how long the ECE virus is active in a carrier or if it ever goes away? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do. She is scheduled to come visit this weekend. So if you could respond in a timely manner I would appreciate your input. Thanking you in advance. Sorry I have to post anon. Jill Owned By Rupert, Fiona & EB [Posted in FML issue 2013]
