Live and Learn... Found out today that it would not only be a DEFINITE MAJOR NO-NO-NO-can-do thing for large companies to let it publicly be known when the CA ferret ban has impinged on their hiring -- but it would also cause problems for employers who are now strongly on our side and are working behind the scenes. So any public mention of specific companies ( perhaps even of the problem itself ) is something to AVOID BIG-TIME! ( On the otherhand, when the company feels it's appropriate it's fine for that company to quitely let their political representatives know.) It was also felt that any specific mention might make some legislators defensive when they might have otherwise been helpful and that's a no-no, as well. The person who clued us in on this score is someone who REALLY knows how such things work so we are letting Jeanne know since the more all of us learn about how to get our opinions considered carefully, the better our ferrets are helped, in ALL the states and communities. We're very familiar with the fact that a lot of schmoozing goes on to get things through politically, but have loads to learn about finessing the fine points. Figure there are many here in the same boat -- in fact, know there are -- so thought this might be useful to all. Jeanne, PLEASE, let me know when you get this. [Posted in FML issue 1957]
