Hi Karen, et. al. I have had 8 in one cage for years now, and when traveling in my motor home it was only 28"wide, 27"high, & 17"deep. A much better size for the house is 36" wide, 48" high & 14" deep. That one has 4 levels, & 3 hammocks, 3 ski caps for snuggling. The smaller the cage the more exercise time they need out of the cage. I consider myself lucky that I can have them in the same cage without major squabbles, though it took some time. If one was beating up on another, I'd pinch the aggressor in the rear & when I got his attention I'd say "not so rough! Play nice!".. It sounds weird, but it worked. The litter pan is a small cat pan that fits perfectly on the bottom level. I also covered the wire floors with linoleum, then carpet pieces on that. I use 3 litter boxes; one is tied in place, the 2nd. has Natures' fresh newspaper pellets with no oils added like cedar, etc.. The 3rd box I have filled with liter outside the cage. When it's time to change the litter, I remove the dirty box #2, replace with clean box #3, & am able to close the door with out the hurd coming out, if I just want to change the litter, & let them play later. I then can take my time cleaning the dirty box #2, & fill it with clean litter for the next change. Much easier, & they don't have time to dirty the floor when there would be no box in place like when you only use one box. Hope this helps, have fun! :) Gary & the gang of fur -> Thru joining, their grief has been transmuted to joy, loneliness to celebration... ..Data, in "The Tin Man" episode, STNG.
