If these ducts get obstructed, the tears overflow instead of draining. I know in horses it can get gunked up and can be cleared, I don't see why it wouldn't also occur, and have similar treatment in other animals. However, clearing it might be more of a challenge due to the small access area in a ferret vs a horse.....talk to your vet. If a blocked duct is the problem I don't think it's actually harmful to leave it alone, just a bit messy. [Posted in FML issue 1919]
