Even the low numbers on average >ferret life span are about 6, so that only makes yours "middle aged" at >best, certainly NOT OLD!! Hi all, I know I'm a pain in the ....But I just can't sit back and read this. I know there are differents in breeding and the country's are different but we should be able to get simmular age in the ferrets if they are treated right. I mean then for example the only thing that makes me shiffer the most and what I think is the most of a problemcauser is the sterrilising at such a young age.. Overhere and I say it again ferrets are common to get the age of 10, only a few which are not treated right die very early or around 6-7 years of age. Not many die of cancer much die of wrong habitat suffering. I don't say we are doing such a good job, the only thing I know is that our ferrets here live longer stay healthy longer and are mostly in better condition well that would say something doesn't it. I hope that you all understand that I'm not kicking just trying to say that there should be done something about this age thing because it seems a little strange just a big differents. BTW I hope all of you know that chocolate is VERY bad for them because there is lactose in it !!!(you know that milkthing) To much can kill them!!!! Flat ferrets we have them aswell, they go running and then suddenly stop go flat and then go on. The flat thing is just a moment of rest but sooooo cute :0) Oh another thing about that cuddly and quality time thing. I have only one ferret of 8 in total that really likes to be cuddled and only when he's out in the evening he comes and sleeps on my lap. The other ones are rather running around playing with me then being held by me. The go out 2 a day for about 1,5 hour per time. And all there time is for them so quality time enough I would say but that doesn't make them more addicted. Also our little critter who was abuised before and bites terribly. I can't never ever teach her not to bite anymore. As soon as she see's human skin she freaks... whatever I try. But she is such a sweety with gloves on so why should I put her through more stress then she already had?? Okay and now for really the last thing.. The cage is not to pretect your house from the ferret but to protect the ferret from your house. I would die if I knew that one of my fuzzies was loose without me looking after them. They sometimes try jumpes they can't make and then make terrible smashes. What if something goes wrong.... Maybe you forgot a plant or closetdoor or... whatever but I think ferrets have not the intelligence to be left alone they are much to anxious for that and who's blaming them there is so much to see around the house.... Bye for now otherwise it going to be a to long letter... Astrid from Holland [Posted in FML issue 1942]
