Thank you all so much for your support and sympathies. There have been so many notes and cards that I have not had a chance to respond to everyone yet, but your kindness is greatly appreciated. So far we have been told of special sweetnesses toward people's ferrets, shelter donations, a sponsored ferret, and two rescued ferrets in Meltdown's memory. We plan to send $200 to the Morris Animal Foundation to further ferret health research in her memory, also. Steve says his dream is that Bill gates decides to buy California in her memory and decree ferrets legal; that made me laugh and cry at the same time. The little one are sleeping with her toys, and everyone here misses her horribly. Steve kept getting up last night to check on her but she was gone. On her last night she played the body parts game with Steve, showing him her hands when he asked for them, stratching out her belly when he requested that, and so on, but by late that night she could not walk without support, and the next morning the clot thrown to her kidney was painful, and then she stroked again and injured her neck during it. It would have been cruel to force her to linger. There's a place near us, just inside a woods where she used to like to watch geese at a neighboring pond and sniff the plants. She's there, and we've put a lily and some forget-me-nots with her. later we plan to add other flowers since she so loved their smells. Some of her carnations are with her and we will refresh them as we visit. meanwhile the ones here will remind us of how she loved to thrust her nose into carnations and they wil help us heal by amking us smile about her. thanks again for all the kindesses to her anf to us. I can't wite much more because I am crying, but we want you all to know how special you are. Sukie and Steve [Posted in FML issue 1894]
