Hi FMLer's, My vet (very ferret knowledgable) asked what I fed my ferrets, I told him a mixture of Totally Ferret, Iams Kitten Food, Pro Plan and of course treats of various nature. He then shared his personal observation of the numerous ferrets he treats. He has found that the ferrets that have a diet of a ferret food called Kaytee (sp?) gives the ferret a very soft, shinny, healthy coat and a very healthy weight. He also stated he has no personal interest in the Kaytee Company. I mentioned that I thought Totally Ferret was the most complete food anyone could purchase for their fert. He said that is what we humans have decided was the best food for our ferts. He said to his knowledge no one has ever done a study on how digestable these foods really are to the ferts since their little digestive track is so fast. He did not really want to debate the food issue, his point to me was that in the ferrets he treats the ones that eat Kaytee are healthier. I found that was a very interesting observation and I wonder what the more experienced ferret owners think of this observation. To anyones knowledge has there ever been a study on how digestable these foods really are? What does everyone think? Jill Owned by Rupert, Fiona & EB [Posted in FML issue 1918]
