This is a cautionary tale (tail?) My new baby ferret Megaybyte, now 16 weeks old, is THE most mischivious critter I have ever heard of. We have a cat door installed in our basement door, so the cats can go down to the basement where the litter box is. The basement is huge, dusty, and dangerous. The cat door has a wonderful design - there is a dial so that you can set the door to open both ways, close both ways, or open on only one side or the other. This is great if the cats go down and you don't want them to come back up for a while, like when you're washing the floor. ANYWAY, Megabyte loves the cats and chases them around -- sure enough he discovered the cat door and took to plunging through it and roaming in the basement, getting filthy and risking his life. Oh ho, I said, and turned the dial so that he could no longer go down. But I found him in the basement twice yesterday. HE FIGURED OUT HOW TO TURN THE DIAL. What's a mother to do? Kat Megabyte ( Hey! Maybe I can dial the phone and get a pizza delivered!) Cody ( I'm starting to like Megabyte.) Chip ( What's a cat door?) Dale ( what's a cat?) [Posted in FML issue 1909]
