I read yesterday's post re: the dangers of paper towel tubes and thought I'd send this one to you as well. I previously sent it to another ferret list but I think it's good for us all to know. We have a tube of kittymalt (hairball remover/laxative) in the ferrets' room. It WAS sitting in a small tub of ferret stuff on top of one cage but it is now on a high shelf and this is why.... This particular brand (8 in 1) is in a pump tube (similar to pump toothpaste). When you press the top, the paste oozes out an opening. Each time you do this, the bottom of the container moves up. It's hard to explain but instead of a full bottom you are left with a cylinder that has a hole going up a few inches with the circular bottom rising each time you use the kittymalt. Babe absolutely loves this stuff and found it in the tub of ferret stuff. She was licking the container to get any speck of wayward malt off it. Then she stuck her head in the bottom of the container and GOT STUCK! I was in the room but did not see her stick her head in. I hear a series of bangs and look up. It is Babe with this container stuck to her head, extending about 8 inches! She was flinging her head about trying to get it off and she was terrified. I grabbed her which was very hard because she was panicking and pulled off the tube. But I can't help thinking what would've happened if I hadn't been right there. She couldn't breath in there. Even the most innocuous things CAN be dangerous. Be careful and enjoy your ferrets.
