I've been following the idea for the Fuzzy Chain, and think it's a great idea! I'd like to offer my home to travelling ferret lovers. I'm in central PA, 5 miles from Harrisburg, right off I-81 or I-83. Is there anyone in charge of this program that I could contact with more information? I saw the post re: someone stocking up on wood pellets for the off-season. I'm also hooked on the pellets, and face the same situation. I talked to the owner of the local Agway where I purchase them, and we worked out a deal. I bought 40 bags, and prepaid for them. He, in exchange, took 20 cents off each bag, and will store them for me. I can pick them up as I need them. What a deal! I'm sure it helped that it was a small store, not like Lowe's or Hechinger's, and that I talked to the owner. If you're in the same situation, it's worth a try. And a side note on the pellets, I was replanting a small pot of Ivy (one guess on why I had to do this...) and realized the ferts had scattered so much dirt, I didn't have enough to fill the pot. Being winter, I didn't have a container of potting soil handy, so I topped off the pot with wood pellets and watered it. Instant mulch!!! Thanks to everyone for the wonderful 'Duck Soup' recipes! (Where did that name come from anyway??) I ended up with 8 total, and they're all so different! I made up one batch of 'Mo Maggies special recipes, and it certainly put a little weight on Sabrina, and they all have more energy.(Thanks, that's just what they didn't need... :) And Maggie, I put a couple of drops of echinacea in there for good luck! It's been a while since Sabrina has run around with the other 3, but now she even keeps up with the baby, BobbyRay. Silly me, she was running around like crazy this morning, and I picked her up to say 'hello.' Her response was 'let me the heck down so I can beat up that cat' but not knowing fert language, I didn't understand. (Where can I sign up for fert language 101?) So, she used the international language around here to get down: kiss, kiss, followed by a very light, brief, nip on my nose to make sure I got the message. I think in written form it would look like this: kiss, kiss!!!! Ok, I got the message! I took one of my cats in for a teeth cleaning yesterday. I'm friends with the vet, and they allow me to stay for surgeries (yes, I like to see what's going on). Anyway, I stayed and watched the procedure. No wonder this needs to be done periodically for all our animals, because there's no way that I can do that good of a job, especially on the back teeth. It was very much like what the dental hygenist does to us, a scraping, cleaning and checking the gums, and then polishing the teeth. (She used bubble gum flavored toothpaste just like they do on my son!) Only difference I could see is that the animal can't rinse after the polishing! :) So glad to read that Gabriel is off to his new home and to the other doctor, and doing so well! We're keeping our fingers and paws crossed here! Best wishes to all the fuzzbeans out there! Penny [Posted in FML issue 1848]
