Mary, we have a 6 yr old collie, who I still do not trust with my ferret Sherman....Although I believe that collies are one of the best breeds you can own, I don't think they would mix well with fuzzies. Because of their herding nature, they would be chasing the ferret constantly. My collie isn't happy unless everyone in the house is in the same room...Only then can she sit down and relax. I've introduced them. The collie licked, and Sherman wanted to chew on the dog's ears. No problem there, but Sherman is a typical ferret and loves to be chased, and loves to do the chasing...I think after a while of trying to round up the ferret, the collie might get antsy. I do also have a small mixed-breed dog(cocker/pek) and she has the run of the house with the ferret and also our cat...They all get along wonderfully. I know this is running long, but I just want to say that I really love reading the digest and I feel very fortunate to have such a wonderful little fuzzy. We want more, OF COURSE, but I'm afraid that they will pale in comparison to Sherman and his wonderful nature. Chris Green Mary who's still thinking about a dog, but starting to lean more toward a cat:) P.S. One of the things I have been doing is researching breeds with low-prey drives. So far the herding group seems good. Collies, Shelties, Bearded Collies have good reputations for being relatively easy going and good in multi animal households. There's too much blood in my caffeine system. Chris Green [log in to unmask] http://www2.southwind.net/~mgreen [Posted in FML issue 1828]
