This seems like a good a time as any to announce the change in Canadian Law regarding ferrets. Previously, ferrets entering Canada needed to be accompanied by an international health certificate (signed by a US Agriculture veterinarian), proof of rabies and distemper vaccines adminsitered no more than a year and no less than one month in advance, as well as with a permit issued by Agriculture Canada. Without all of this, you could have one hell of a time getting over the border, as Julianna can testify to when coming to Vancouver with Pat :-) However, apparently some folks kicked up a stink and a new law has gone into effect as of January 22nd 1997. Ferrets have been granted the same rights as dogs and cats regarding border crossings. All your ferrets will need is proof of rabies and distemper vaccines adminstered prior to the crossing. If you'd like more information on the specific bill (or if you'd like us to fax you a copy, since border people aren't always up on current law) just drop us an a-mail. However, if you do not have a residential address in Canada, they may require a quarantine period. This is sometimes-sometimes-not sort of scenario. > 3) Are there any vets for ferrets in New Brunswick? Can't help you there. Contact the Canadian Veterinary Association for a list of vets in your future area. Sheena - [log in to unmask] | "To Err is Ferret ... To Forgive| VP - Greater Vancouver | "...
