The results of the raccoon shedding study showed that ferrets can shed the virus 2-3 days before showing symptoms. This is somewhat better than the cat or dog, and point to a 10 day quarantine period as being adequate. All ferrets shedding the virus died within a week. Not as good as we had hoped, but nothing to indicate that a 10 day quarantine would not be more than adequate to protect public health. Dick B [Posted in FML issue 1800]
