Hi all, Dave here, at 3:13 a.m., couldn't sleep because new semester starts in 5 hours, and Rosie was awake, and bugging her Ma, so I brought her downstairs with me to pound on the pooter for a while... Rosie has turned out to be a very faithful companion to the both of us. She gets into everything and causes the other fuzzies to get into trouble...but all in all she is very devoted, and we figure that she just demands attention all the time since she loves us so much...=) Those raccoons have been having a field day in the backyard...but the girl's Ma and I decided that they are benefitial to our garden...besides the fact that for the last couple months they have managed to tunnel under the small fence that I put up to keep them out (smart critters)...well, they seem to be eating all of the various bugs left and right that would otherwise wreck the plants and flowers in the garden...hmmm....natural pest-management...the best kind, I think! =) We have a friend back east, who had a pet raccoon for a while, and had ferrets too, so I guess they can get along...although I think he said that the coon killed one of his ferrets >cring< and he had to get rid of it...let it go back in the woods where he got it from...I am very curious to know if other people on the FML have tried to raise wild animals and with what success??? Another friend of mine had a flying squirrel as a child...etc. etc...This sort of thing fascinates me very much since I am studying wildlife at the college for my bachelors...I believe that the proper term for our backyard coons is "urban" wildlife...although that to me seems like a fuzzy term, since definite boundaries to wilderness and city are unlimited... I know that Rosie tried to "eat" a frog once in the wild...so we keep our reptiles and amphibians and fish safe from the curiosity of our fuzzies...but I wonder if any FML'ers have had unusual experiences with other animals and their ferrets??? We tried to keep a dog, but it barked at the ferrets and was afraid of them so we gave her back to the previous owner...and the neighborhood cats seem very curious when they poke their heads in the tall, glass walls we have in the back..."Are those baby cats?" they seem to ask... I have thought about this phenomenon for quite a while but never asked...so here it is, I am asking... =) Well, as for The Big Adventure (T.B.A.) series...my brother needs a little motivation to do the drawings for the published version...so if anyone wants to e-mail him and tell him how much they want him to do his wonderful work...his address is: >[log in to unmask]< He won't mind me asking folks to write to him, since he loves all the ferret posts I send him, and he thinks that I am crazy (in a good way) for half the stuff I write to the FML... Well, Lisa is yellin' at me to come back to bed, so I better go... Love and dooks, Dave =) [P.S.] Sorry, forgot to mention that my brother's name is Steve... [Posted in FML issue 1673]
