As far as weight loss goes, this is so nonspecific a sign that it could be
caused by almost anything.  I would have your vet first exam the ferret,
then possibly run a blood panel.  As for the teeth, if it's tartar, they can
be cleaned ultrasonically under assuming the ferrets are healthy enough.
It's very unusual for wieght loss to be caused by dental disease in this
species.
