If I infer correctly petroleum jelly is just fine to use. I have to say, however, that my ferrets absolutely adore p.j. and do not hesitate to take it. My cats absolutely hate both p.j. and laxatone, but I find that they have a harder time spitting the p.j. back out after I've administered it. In my area a tube of laxatone costs over $6, while I can get a big old pot of non-name brand p.j. (16 oz.) on sale for under $2. A healthy bit of savings with 6 pets. Even a smaller amount of savings would be worth it as dimes (and pennies) are very important in this household and can make a big difference in the budget.
