Hello Ferret Fans, Are you fighting a legalization battle in your area? Are you ignorant of the facts that compare ferrets to other domestic animals? Do you live in California, or Hawaii, where information on the ferret is incorrect, misleading or outright wrong? Anyone dealing with state or municipal agencies, or lawmakers, on ferret legalization should write away for one or more copies of the report, "Ferreting out the Facts on the California Department of Fish & Game's War on the Domestic Ferret," which has just been published by the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy (PRI). The briefing, as it is called, is 22 pages, including footnotes, and is the product of a well respected conservative think tank that acts as a kind of watchdog on the excesses of government. The author is Michael Lynch, a very bright public policy fellow that has written reports for PRI, as well as articles that have appeared in numerous political publications. As we all know, the California Department of Fish and Game's work on the ferret issue hasn't been exactly "think tank" quality, and this report gives the agency an "F" for its inability to adhere to the facts. It also slams the infamous California Department of Health Services Report from 1988 calling it an "intellectual hatchett job on the ferret." If you are from California, or are involved in ferret legalization in your city, state or county, you should have copies of this report for any meeting or presentation you put on. If you are unaware of the facts of ferret ownership relative to other domesticated species and simply want to be prepared for a possible attempt to ban or restrict ferret ownership, you should have a copy of this report. To order a copy, you can write me, Jeanne Carley, at 410 Mountain Home Road, Woodside, CA 94062. The cost is $5.00 per report and includes mailing. Or, you can order directly from the Pacific Research Institute at 755 Sansome Street, #450, San Francisco, CA 94111. If you order from me, make the check payable to me. If you order from PRI, make it payable to them. In either case, be sure to mention the title of the report and how many copies you wish to receive and where to send them. It's terrific bed-time reading for anyone that has suffered the injustices of living in a ferret-free-zone, or has been involved in defending this wonderful companion animal from the abuses of ignorant people.
