Hi there, To the anonymous poster: Its a parliament of OWLS. Next, Orville, Rajah and I went to the vet on the 1st. This was mainly for Rajah's quarterly check up (some of you might recall that she had a kidney removed, so she is visiting the vet regularly to keep an eye on her health hoping the other kidney will not go frot too). Anyway, she got a clean bill of health and does she seem to know it!!!! What a lot of bounces and dooks she gives :). Orville however....I suspected he might have an impacted anal gland and sure enough, he did. The vet expressed both. She has recommended following a high fibre diet (Medi Cal Feline Fibre Formula). He has taken to it happily enough. Rajah is enjoying it too - is this ok for her? (I'll be calling the vet, but other opinions would be welcomed). The theory behind this fibre thing is (not polite conversation I know, but..) it will enlarge his stools and help 'self-express' his glands. Does that sound reasonable? We are trying this first. If it doesn't work we will resort to antibiotics and if necessary have the offending glands removed. Has anyone been this fibre route? Is it effective? Also, one of his lower canines is discoloured. The vet doesn't think its a problem. She suspects the tooth has been damaged at some time...of course I wondered what I might/might not have done to prevent it, but she reassured me that things like this happen :( Perhaps he pulled on a toy on an elastic too hard or something???? Any ideas? More importantly, is there a chance the tooth might become infected? Or is it likely dead already? Thanks in advance for any ideas/advice, Tanya, Orville & Rajah ([log in to unmask]) [Posted in FML issue 1558]
