Hello all!! I was noticing postings on pet stores with less than desirable conditions for the ferts. It is our responsibility to tell the staff that their water is empty or their food is gone. I do...I feel silly but I know I did the right thing. I belong to ferret fanciers group in Nebraska and our mission is to educate store employees and new fert owners on the proper care of these lovable fuzzies. You don't have to belong to a group (you may want to start one...they are a lot of fun!). You can create your own care sheets including health and proper care and distribute to pet stores to hand out to customers. Usually, they are really receptive and like the idea. Recently, I went into a garden center store and they sell locally bred ferts. This baby was 8 months old and had never had a distemper shot. Well, I had a lot of educating to do!! I would love to talk to the breeder as well!! The store employee was concerned about her and really seemed to care...he was going to bathe her that day (her ears were black!). The store owner seemed much less interested. We have 15 or more stores to hit in the next few months...I encourage all of you to do the same in your area. Also, posting your name and number so people can call you about fert related questions or where they can take their unwanted ferts (rather than to the humane society). Thanks for listening....And good luck!!! Also, let me know of any good vets in Olathe, Oveland Park or Kansas City Kansas.....I'm moving just for this summer...
