Hello all. My first litter (ever!) will be five weeks old today. They are very cute and all are doing well. Eyes are open on all of them and they are toddling around very well. Seem to be slightly ahead on development compared to the litter documented in the FURO book on reproduction. Color seems well defined. Mom is cinnamon, Dad is black sable. Kits so far are-- one male that looks to take after dad, very dark. one cinnamon female marked exactly like mom, very pale and reddish. one slightly darker but still appears cinnamon, panda and mitts, female. Two silver, one panda, one panda "wannabe" (patch of silver by right ear), both female, both with mitts. Now for the color question-- i wrote ~3 weeks ago with a question about a jill i saw at a renfest, but it was never answered, so i'm trying again, this time with more information. this jill was a solid dark yellow all over, face slightly lighter but still yellow, dark eyes, black guard hairs on tail. looked like a DEW pattern that had been dipped in clover honey. very pretty. (i can be more detailed this time because she is sitting in my lap helping me type this!). Okay... her owner says that her mother mated with a mink. i was browsing through the color section in the FURO reproduction book, and saw a reference to a mink with "ambergold" colored fur. Could this be the color? but-- she also has a severely twisted face, which same book says is a result of inbreeding. so... any idea what the color would be called, and if it could indeed be from a mink cross? also, this jill had a litter last year. the daughter i have seen is white, not yellow, normal face. please, any info will help and be muchly appreciated. val "Shamrock" [log in to unmask] Valeriane Luke McNeill Biology major/CS minor Marine Biology/Zoology [Posted in FML issue 1538]
