According to Judi Bell, Marshall Farms uses FerVac to vaccinate their ferrets. According to a report published by the local HS here in Monroe County (NY), MF sold 82,000 ferrets in 1994. Consequently, 82,000 ferrets at MF alone were vaccinted with FerVac and survived in 1994. Assuming they keep up their average sales, it is safe to estimate that that they sold ~82,000 ferrets in 1995 as well - all vaccinated with FerVac - all surviving (if they were sold, they were alive). As I used the last of my Fromm-D last year, I have made the switch to FerVac - not without some trepidation however. 8 of my 15 have now been vaccinated with FerVac with no reaction, and I plan to use it on my forthcoming litter. I do watch for reactions though, and when I go the vet, I have him do the vacinations first, and the "problem" ferrets last - allowing me to stay at least 30 minutes before leaving so I can watch for reactions. So far, no problems. Of course, if *you* have the 1 ferret who *does* react to FerVac, all these numbers mean "didly-squat." Debbie Riccio WNYFLFA Rochester, NY [Posted in FML issue 1542]
