I have a question that has been bothering me recently concerning the distemper vaccines. It's my understanding that the Ferrvac and Galaxy vaccines consist of a modified live virus. Have there every been any studies or is there any suspicion that the modified virus is as "contagious" as the distemper virus? Can unvaccinated ferrets gain any protection by "catching" the modified virus? My concern is with my ferrets that have had severe reactions to the CDV. I probably won't be able to re-vaccinate those, and I am wondering if there would be any advantage with putting them with recently vaccinated ones in the hope of some of the immunity being transferred.
