I believe that the ferret legging article was published in the New Yorker, a
friend gave me a copy a few years ago (maybe '93), which I of course did not
save.
 
The article was meant to be humorous in that peculiar New Yorker way.
However it did not by any means portray the ferrets as domesticated, these
were the English kind used for hunting.
