I have been on this list for almost a year now and this is our first post! I just want to say that we have enjoyed it all. We have recieved a lot of information to use with our two fuzzies. Thank you all. We are moving to California in about a month, unknown yet to our kids! I have not told them yet. Being fuzzies, I am not sure they care! But we do! We have not yet decided if we are going to take them with us. We do have friends in a nearby state to "fuzzie-sit" until they are legal, but that could take years! We are also members of the CDFA, California Domestic Ferret Association. I have seen a lot of stuff about ferrets in Cali lately and just would like to share with everyone some information. This is all from CDFA web page. You can visit it at http:/www.ccnet.com/~beisners/cdfa/cdfa.html. And please do! Lots of good stuff there, including how to get fuzzie calanders! OKay, first, the CDFA does not recomend or encourage ownership, but they do estimate 500,000 ferrets living in CA. A Fish & Game warden or officer must produce a properly signed search warrant to search your house to find ferrets. The give a full discription of one on the web page. The bottom line is that the OWNER makes a DECISION on what happens to the fuzzies. You can ship them out in 47 to a permanent home, shipped to an adoptive center set up by CDFA were they will NOT be euthanasized, you can give them up to CDFA for trasport and adoption, OR you may give your fuzzies to the officers. The only way they will be destroyed is if you give them to the officers. So, unless you turn over your ferrets, they will not be destroyed. Also, the CDFA requests that you call them when this happens because they are keeping track. They have been doing this for 12 years and have many homes for ferrets. But it is still to bad they have to do it in the first place. The last bill was defeated on Jan 7th this year. Hope and the Gang were talking about an Oregon shelter were the fuzzie cannot be returned. That was a deal made between the state and CDFA to allow CDFA to rescue the ferrets in the first place and allow them to live. At least that is what I understand. As for the borders, I don't know. I think the only way they would know is if you had them out or told them. When we cross, they only ask us if we have foods. I pray to God they don't ask us next time! I am sorry this is so long. I hope you all found something in it of value. Thanks for listening to me!
