Just want to re-post message regarding the upcoming meeting of the Mass Friends Group next Sunday. As you all know, Governor Weld signed House Bill 295 (The Ferret Bill) into law on December 7, 1995. The law will not be enacted for 90 days. We have declared the morning of March 7, 1996 as Ferret Freedom Day in Massachusetts. Now that we are ALMOST legal, we do have our work cut out for us. We have scheduled a meeting of ALL the members of the Mass Friends Group on Sunday February 4, 1996. On the agenda for this meeting is what the Mass Friends Group would like to accomplish. That is why we need ALL of you to come and voice your opinions and bring your ideas. PLEASE, IF YOU ATTEND THIS MEETING, DO NOT BRING ANY FERRETS! Who we are, the status of the Legalization effort, Food and Agriculture regulations, Fish and Wildlife Regulations, i.e., quarantines. Pet industry plans, Shelter operations for people interested in operating one, half way houses, rescues and foster care programs, Ferrett Freedom Day Activities, Kick-off Fundraiser party and dance, Ferret Awareness Day and formation of committees. So you can see there is much to be accomplished. It is important we get each and every one of you involved. Date: Sunday, February 4, 1996 Time: 2:00 to 4:30PM Place: New England Science Center, Worcester If you could ask a friend or anyone you know who would like to attend the meeting, please pass this information on. Also, please post this info at your local Veterinary clinics, pet stores, wherever ferret owners may see it. The more the merrier. Thanks to Brian Dombrowski who is a member of our group and has made arrangements with the New England Science Center where he works. He has asked that we do get a head count so the seating can be arranged and an adequate amount of refreshments will be available. It was decided that this site is central to the state and since we are a state wide organization, it would be only fair to meet here. We will need a head count by January 29, 1996. Anyone interested in attending the meeting, you can either e-mail me directly at: [log in to unmask] or, you can call the Ferret Hotline in MA (617) 224-1098. Out of state people, please e-mail me. I'll be glad to send out the directions to NESC. Also, we will be forming carpools and if you'd like to coordinate that, please note it. [Posted in FML issue 1459]
