Contrary to much well-entrenched mythology, ferrets (unlike humans) will not typically eat themselves into illness. Whereas nutrition science has established certain maximum "safe" intake for sugar, raisins, etc., and whereas ferrets DO seem to like such foods, there is no reported evidence of ferrets having eaten themselves into illness in a free-choice feeding test. The same is true for many other species. Only humans seem to override the signals sent them by their bodies regarding nature and extent of food intake. I guess he thinks of it as a big water bowl to play in. What a funny sight! Really surprised us too given that he really hates to get his little feet wet. Go figure! Now that it is cold out Princess, his foster sister, wants nothing to do with the outdoors. Of course, this could be due to her lack of a winter coat. Chewie on the other hand looks like he is wearing three at one time. [Posted in FML issue 1398]
