to linda: the difference between neutering and declawing Neutering pets is a necessary (lifesaving in female ferrets) surgery that prevents unwanted babies (that end up in pounds) and reduces aggression and the urge to roam. I have heard that unneutered male ferrets can be dangerous to other ferrets when in heat. Declawing, defanging, tail and ear docking (in dogs) are not necessary for the health of the animal. some are cosmetic and others are to prevent natural behaviors that can be destructive to peoples possesions. Would you cut off your cat's legs if you dont want it to jump onto the counter? Of course not!!! :) Some people declaw their cat when the find out that they are expecting a baby... I imagine most people would agree declawing a cat to protect your baby is justifiable. Descenting your ferret while getting it neutered is a bit of convenience that you can have done while your ferret is unconscious. My ferrets dig at the carpet at closed doorways so to save my damage deposit (i live in an apartment) I put down a bit of plastic carpet protector. Works like a charm. ___ ___ ( o o ) / \ \o/ \_/ \ / ___ \ \ // ( 0o0 ) ___ \ \__// \ v \/ \ / \//___\ __/ \ \// ,_// ,_\___/ ,__\ ,__\____/ [Posted in FML issue 1364]
