FERRETS ACROSS AMERICA NATIONAL SHOW The California Domestic Ferret Association (CDFA), Ferrets Anonymous (FA) and the Ferret Association of Connecticut, Inc. (FACT, Inc.) is holding the first California "Mock" Ferret Show in Ventura, California on Sunday, December 3, 1995! Simultaneously, FACT is holding their Fall Ferret Frolic in Connecticut making these two sister events the first ever FERRETS ACROSS AMERICA coast-to-coast ferret show! California, Hawaii and Massachusetts are the last three hold-out states for the legalization of ferrets as pets. California's fellow ferret owners must break the law to share their lives with their pets of choice. It is currently a felony to own a ferret in California. Ferret activists have introduced a bill in the California state legislature to legalize ferrets. The bill, which was once defeated will be up for reconsideration in January. This mock show is designed to increase public awareness and garner support for that legislation. This is also an opportunity to demonstrate ferret support NATIONALLY which will help ferret supporters in Massachusetts and Hawaii in their efforts as well as to those fighting for local acceptance in places like New York City and Washington, D.C. All it takes to enter your ferret is a photo or drawing and a check for $3.00 along with a postage paid, self-addressed return envelope. Each entry is automatically entered in all 3 judging categories and all entries receive a participation ribbon for this historic, first ever, coast-to-coast ferret show. Photos and drawings should be marked on the back with your name and return address. Even if you no longer have a ferret you may enter as a memorial or for a friend's ferret! To enter your ferret(s) send a photo or drawing and a check for $3.00 for each ferret, along with a postage paid, self-addressed return envelope to: Grace McGraph - Coordinator of Event 7115 Owl Court Ventura, CA 93003 The CDFA, FA and FACT are actively seeking media interest in this historic event. The organizers ask all ferret clubs, vets, pet stores and other pet industry groups to actively support this effort by aggressively promoting participation in the California photo contest. This is a wonderful opportunity to sent a POWERFUL POSITIVE message about ferrets as companion pets to legislators and ferret detractors across the nation. [Posted in FML issue 1371]
